This is what a 60,000 mile oil change looks like:

That is for a real BMW engine maintained by a guy with more money than sense.

That is a testament to full synthetic oil, had that car came with dino oil from the factory it would have lasted maybe 30k.

they should make people change the oil and oil filter in their cars during a drivers test or they don't get a drivers license

ehhhh i had a friend back in highschool who received a brand new honda crv for her birthday. one day she asked me why might make her car run badly. i looked around under the hood and asked her to start it. sounded like it was running on gravel. had her kill the motor. pulled the stick and all that was on it was cooked on sludge. she had never had the oil changed in 2 and a half years. she "never knew i had to change it" and "nobody told me",,, typical girl from a well off family, no accountability and more money then brains.

seeing as i was driving a 69 el camino i had a few courts of oil behind the seat. i poured it in and sent her to the dealer to have the stupid thing looked at.

luckily she didnt do any major damage, but i wouldnt want to own that rig after her.

i totally agree that every single person should have to learn basic automotive skills in drivers ed. changing a tire, oil changes, etc.

i also believe that everyone at 16 who gets their license should have to drive some car with no more then a 4cyl engine and a manual tranny.

ha ha then there wouldn't be so many women drivers! that would be nice. but on a side note I make sure my 15 year old daughter is out helping me everytime I work on the truck, I also try to explain not only what I am doing but how the whole system I am working on works.

My 2 year old daughter asks me if we are going to buy some oil every time I put her in the car. When we go to Walmart or an auto store she goes and grabs a gallon of Rotella.

a hundred years ago, one of my first jobs was at a full service gas station, we we instructed to always ask the customer if we couls check their oil, you have no idea how many people women AND men would come back with " I dont think my car has oil " or " no, we changed it just last year "

and ditto to the scheduled mainteance being added to the driver's ed, But my instructor wasn't smart enough to teach it......we got in a heated argument one day, a quiz question was ....what does the oil light mean on the dash ? I said oil pressure is low and you should first pull over and check your oil, he insisted that it meant that the oil temp was too high and you should " just slow down ". He's probably working for GM now.
