towing with 01 Disco
Am I calculating this wrong?

If the trailer has brakes, then you look at that as sorta a separate vehicle.
The owner manual says you can safely (if well skilled) use a trailer with brakes that is 5500 pounds, but you can only add 450 pounds to the truck (that would be one of me plus a slender blonde and small picnic basket). What you can't do is tow 5500 pounds, with a roof rack full of gear and five big guys inside plus six tool boxes.
This doesn't mean you can't move the trailer, but it sets a point at which the lawyers and insurance companies may remove what is left of your fortune after an accident.

If the trailer has brakes, and you're setup to have them actually work on the rover -- I wouldn't hesitate to pull a little Miata on the back with any car trailer that would fit on a normal tow ball. As with any towing - take it easy.
