Default Towing and shift points

Picked up my new travel trailer last weekend and found out that I can barely stay in high gear at highway speeds. (2002 disco pulling a 3000 lb trailer) In other words, if there's a bit of incline or some wind, it can't hold high gear at 2000 RPM/55 mph and will kick down to the next gear and run at around 2400 rpm. That concerns me and I've been assuming that I'll burn up my transmission if I have to maintain 2400.

But now I'm wondering if I'm overreacting.anybody have an opinion? Thanks.

You won't burn up your trans because the torque converter should be locked.

I've found that my Disco is the worst tow vehicle I've ever driven. Mine does the same thing towing a 2 place atv trailer. I typically can't use drive on the highway, but usually I just leave it in 3rd. on the automatic. Changing to the stock tire height (or shorter) would probably help or changing the diff's to 4:10's would help the most.
