Default TPS Question

I'm using a scangauge 2 to monitor my TPS amongst other things. I've had this intermittent pinging issue for a while even when running top tier fuels. I noticed when holding the pedal steady my TPS reading will jump up and down as much as 10 on the scangauge. So I'll hold it where the reading is 35 and it will jump back and forth between 35 and 45. I tested it warmed up with a meter and the voltage seemed smooth up and down. I know things are different when underway with vibrations and all. Should I replace the TPS?

You could try connecting a meter to it and watch both the meter and the scan gauge. If the scan gauge shows a wandering reading but the meter is steady, it's either a problem with the scan gauge, the ECU or some sort of interference. If it doesn't act up, you can try tapping it lightly and see if you can recreate the fault. If that doesn't work, you can try wiggling the wires.
The readings certainly shouldn't be changing like that. I doubt it's the scan gauge. More than likely the TPS has an intermittent fault, but it's better to check everything first. No sense in spending money if it's a wiring problem.

I'm pretty sure it's the TPS. I was checking the voltage output with my meter but I didn't have an assistant to tap on things while I was doing it.

I'm going to replace it. Do I have to go OEM or are the aftermarket sensors OK here? I know these vehicles are picky on some things.

Just for a reference to another, mine reads close to 10 +- a couple at 50mph. Using ScanGauge as well. At 35 accelerating briskly. No knowledge of part to use but see prices begin <$30.

It will probably be fine. It's just a simple potentiometer.
