Default Traction Control hiccup

My 2003 DII with 82k has an intermittent hiccup when breaking. Basically when applying break (at any speed but mostly slow speed) every so often the T/C light briefly flashes and engages and then disengages. This also has a side effect of locking up my ScanGuageII ECU reader. Most often it happens at lower speeds like when approaching a stop sign or pulling into the garage at night. I had a similar problem on my RV (96 E350 Ford) and it turned out to be a broken ABS sensor. It does not throw any codes. How do I determine which wheel is the problem and what is the part I might need to replace called?

I’ve inspected the wires to the hubs but have not yet taken them apart to look at the sensors.

Get rid of one problem for a while, un plug the scanner.
So the ETC will flash while braking, do you feel anything if so describe in detail.
Are the 3 amigo are?

Will unplug the scanner to see if that is somehow causing the problem.

When this happens there is a sudden and brief loss of brakeing power/pedal movement and increase in RPM. The pedal doesn't studder as though the ABS were kicking in it just get mushy but then quickly rebounds after the event passes a second or two later. The truck sort of lunges abit and then rebounds.

Its actually quite frightening especially going into the garage because for an instant you feel as if you are going to go through the wall and then the brakes come back.

Just a quick question- why are you driving with your scanner plugged in?

It sounds like a faulty ABS sensor to me, but odd it is not sending a error code.

Its more than just a scanner. It reads the ECU in real time so you get all kinds of sensor info. Water Temp, Intake Temp, RPM, MPG, Engine Load, Voltage...etc

http://www.scangauge.com/

It just happens to also read and clear ODB codes.

That thing looks pretty sweet, I saw someone else with one a while back. If it's accurately reading codes and giving you that info, I may installing one lower on the dash in front of the t-case shifter. How long have you used it?

They are neat, can't read ABS issues and the less foreign stuff going on thru the ECU when you are having a problem the better of you may be.
