hey!

I recently purchased a 2000 Disco II, 66k miles. Everything on it seems to be running well, except the other day when my father and I took it off road a little bit. We went off into a little field with a modest sandy (a little muddy at the time) hill. my father put it in low gear and started up the hill. a few feet up the traction control light came on, there was a lot of clicking, and the tires were just spinning. not wanting to damage anything we stopped, backed down the hill, and went home.

were we doing something wrong?

You were fine. That was the TC engaging and slowing down the tire rpm to gain traction. First it will sound like a high pitch then a slight clicking. Kinda robot like. If go over large bumps on the street or take off fast from a stop sign you will hear the same thing and the orange circle will light on your instrument panel. Its sounds like it was functioning properly. Some day the Three Amigos will come visit. Do a search on the forum. Mine tend to come on with it rains out, but then go away

 

Thanks! I was worried. I was having a hard time getting up the hill but that probably had more to do with my tires. we took it out again today and tried a different hill (not in low gear though) and we were fine but i wanted to double check on the clicking.

A lot of times you dont want to be in low when you go up a steep hill, there is a lot of torque and a little gas makes your tires spin quite a bit.
