Default Trailer wiring problem

I have a 96 Disco and I haven't been able to get trailer lights working on it ever since I bought it. My father owned it before me and had the trailer kit installed on it at a Rover dealer and it has never worked right. I have searched the web sight of the manufacturer (Hella) and it has been no help. Everything I tow is the flat 4 pin and mine is a seven round pin. I have the proper adapter, seven pin to 4, but it doesn't work. Thanks.

Has someone installed a trailer wiring control to the factoru plug assembly in the r/r quarter panel?

Yes it was installed at the dealer about 6 years ago before I bought it. I haven't pulled down the quarter panel yet that is my next step. I found an example to follow once I get it apart. I think they crossed some wires or didn't do something right when they installed it. Thanks.

Thanks. The web site doesn't have the same type of connector but I think it pins out the same. I'm going to test it today.

Before you completely rip your truck apart, check the ground wire (usally white). Sometimes the corrosion breaks the connection.
I found this to be a problem with my wiring. All I do is remove my screw where my ground wire is. clean the metal, ensure the wire is clean and not broken then reconnect. I find with road wash under the the truck I have to do this every other year.
Good luck.
