DI's have a dip stick and tube. Al, you need is a funnelsmall enough to fit into the tube.
Back of the engine next to the firewall on the left as you are facing the truck.

spike - thanks. a follow-up: I've looked at the "hand pumps" for oil changes and so forth, and am tempted to purchase for oil changes. But they only seem to work in one direction - extract from engine into reservoir. but for this situation we need to opposite: pump *into* the engine... can you recommend a source?

mgbake - thanks for your reply. I considered a long tube from the passenger side on down as you say. good to hear you've had success with this! I don't like the idea of not being able to monitor progress "below" while filling the funnel above - how do you do that exactly?

DO NOTuse a hand pump for oil changes. Use the drain plug on the bottom, all of the sediments settle on the bottom anddraining the oil carries the sediment with it. If you use the pump to suck the oil out of the engine you wont get all of the oil out and all of that sediment will still be in the bottom.
You can use the pump in reverse. You can put the hoses on oppisite ends and suck the fluid out of a bottle and into the transfer case for example.
The pump doesnt care what you pump from. You can go from bottle to bottle, bottle to differential, power steering resevoir to bottle, whatever, the pump doesnt care or know any diffenet.

Its pretty easy to see if it is dripping. I leave my catch pan under the transmission.

Thanks to both of you. I'll shop around for the right hand pump... any recommendations? I've seen both electric and manual models...

Manual model. Cheap will work for all you are going to use it for.
