Default Tranny problem and vibration in steering

Ok it seems like when I let off the gas the tranny automatically down shifts and I loose speed even going down hill. Why would it do that?

Also this morning I let go of the wheel and accelerated to see what it would do for the hell of it and it was shaking. If I hold it it seems to stop. Any ideas?

Hopefully mike or someone else experienced with the trans will chime in on that.

Regarding the steering: When's the last time you had the tires rotated / balanced? What is the general tire condition? Do you have ANY wiggle / play in rod ends? When's the last time you had an alignment? Do you have a lift, if so how high and what kind?

Any time a D2 owner reports "Whole Lot O Shakin Gonnin' On" I always think about that front propshaft double cardon factory greased and sealed U joint. Anything that can pop and take out the tranny deserves attention. For what the dealer gets for a tranny you can buy a used D2, maybe two of them.

But if you have Jerry Lee Lewis turned up too loud you may miss some of the noises, if you are using the flux capacitor button on the radio to time travel back to the good old days (gas was under a quarter, the EPA had not been invented, etc.).

The prop shaft has been recently rebuilt and is properly greased. I will look into balancing the tires and checking the alignment... It slipped my mind.

Any input on the tranny would be good

Dont see it as much with stock tires but with beat-up off road tires if your wheel parts ways with enough of the wheel-balancing weights you can get some interesting symptoms...

How many miles on the truck, when was the tranny last serviced, when was the level last checked and do you have a check engine light on?
As for the vibration, could be anything, except for the fact that you have a whinning sound so I would go to the tire shop and have the balance up yhe tires at the same time looking for a tread separation starting up.

118 k miles on the truck, I did the fluid about 5k miles ago. No check in engine light. I believe in preventative maintenance.
