Default Tranny question

Hi, I'm looking to buy a 2003 land rover discovery. I test drove it today. It was involved in a 10mph front end accdident with minor bumper damage. No air bag deployment. The problem is (according to the seller) that the transmission shifted fine prior to the accident. Now you must start out in 1st gear and manually shift through the gears, 1 at a time. Once the car is moving, it will shift (up and down) with no problems.(this was confirmed during my test drive)Only when you come to a complete stop do you have to manually shift again. This sounds like a sensor issue more than a tranny issue. Any advice??? Thanks

How do you know it was "10 mph crash"? Sounds like trouble to me, IMO

This is what I know....
1. Small dealership, purchased car at auction 2 weeks ago
2. A person was test driving it 2 days ago and crashed it into another car on the lot.
3.Sales person claims approx 10 mph. Damage to the front bumper looks about right
4. Insurance claim has been files.
5. Dealership willing to sell as-is (i fix bumper and tranny) very reduced price.
6. Chances are dealership will keep insurance proceedes for reduced price.
7. Dealership stated that the car shifted fine prior to the accident.

I was wondering if there is/was in impact sensor or something that may have jared due to the accident.

Based on reading this forum since I posed my original question, I'm realizing thatthis car may have the 3 amigos problem with the ABS light, brake light,TC (traction control?) light and some yellow lightlooking like a tow truck picking up the back end of the car.The drivers side seatbelt fails to retract. And two hoses (looking like ac or water hoses) are capped off?? This may be more problems than its worth.

it sounds like another rover with a tragic case of ownership neglect. not taking care of these trucks is the best way to kill them.

That tow truck light is for the SLS, self leveling suspension. Meaning that the air ride suspension has a fault.
Walk away. There are plenty of other fish in the sea.
After they fix it then maybe look at it again. But I am betting that this truck goes back to auction.

03's are the worst of the D2's to buy because of the engine failure issue. There are tons of Disco's on the market, go find another one, do not buy this truck, it may only come with a salvage title also.
When you think you have found a better truck, then get back to us and give us all the details as well as the price.
