Default transfer box filler nut removal?

2001 disco

Any ideas how I can loosen the filler nut. Spent a while today couldn't get it loose. I used the 1/2 head. Sprayed it with liquid wrench, let sit for 1/2 hour, then repeated. No help. Tried to hit wratchet down with a hammer but couldn't get leverage. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

That thing is a PITA! I had the same problem and resolved it as follows:

I used the wobble extension and attached a long torque wrench that gave me lots of leverage. I put my foot on the end of it and slowly started adding pressure. It did come undone...

Hope that helps!

Breaker bar and grunt when you pull on it.

The metal filler plug and aluminum case dont like each other and will corrode and stick.
Apply anti-sieze on the threads when you put it back together.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to give it a second go around in a couple days. Supposed to rain here tomorrow.

I have just done mine, and found the same problem. Use a 21mm socket, the hexagonal type rather than the 'star' type. Press down hard as well as turning the ratchet. This should prevent the plastic head from stripping.

Just did mine this past weekend. My wrench is 3/8" drive so I used a 2" extension and then a 3/8" to 1/2" conversion. After setting the wrench in the filler plug I went sideways under the truck - my head sticking out the passenger's side with my left foot on the left rear trailing arm and right foot somewhere on the ladder frame for leverage. Then both hands on the wrench handle and dead lift sideways.
I agree a short breaker (12" or so) would have helped a lot. If you don't have one go to Home Depot and find a right size pipe and have them cut it to the length of your choice.
