How did you fit all that between the back of transmission brake and the transfer case?

 

That's funny, it was actually one that I had borrowed from a colleague! Didn't break it, and by the time I got to thinking of using that, I was so pissed at the nut, that I didn't care what tool I was using anymore. Obviously I would have replaced it if I had broken it...

 

The 2" extension for my 3/8" drive wrench is pretty skinny and it moves the wrench just enough away from the filler. The whole set up sits at a slight angle but probably not any worse than using a wobble. I put the 1/2" square adapter into the filler plug first to make sure it sits nicely, then the extension, finally attaching the wrench. I also think that the tolerance gap between the adapter and the extension gives me that slight angle that I needed.

 

This is what I used and I had it out in just a couple of minutes.

 

Finished her up today. Used a 1/2 wratchet with the universal head, I attached a 10" 3/4 pipe to the wratchet for additional leverage. She went just fine after that. Applied anti seize to the filler bolt so she doesn't give me too much trouble next time. Over all, not too bad of a job once the bolt was removed.

Transfer box filler nut- No problem. The drain plug I can't get to. Tried every thing I have, and drove to multiple auto/hardware stores and couldn't find anything that would fit past the cross member.

What do you all use? The only thing I have found that might work is a socket cap set.
