What is the difference between Lt230e and LT230qe?

I know 99-02 have the interlock solenoid mounted on top of the actual transfer case housing. 03-04's have the interlock solenoid as part of the Hi/Lo shifter assembly.

They also worked on trying to make the TC's quieter during it's life in D1/D2's so they had other misc changes as well. (not even counting the plus or minus of the CDL linkage nipple).

If one were to purchase a replacement which year and part number would be the best and why?

I only know about the scope of use for these transfer cases in the Discovery, but the 2004 would be my obvious choice there, for factory locking, noise improvements, and lack of interlock solenoid. Of course, all of these things could be addressed with a different example, but you're asking for opinions on the best.

2004 because it has a factory center differential lock. Make sure to buy the shifter linkage assembly with the transfer case.

I believe the "Q" stands for quiet as they rounded the gear edges for less noise.

Any model with the nipple (99, 00, 01, and "some" 02's produced in 01, and of coarse the 04. If you're going to the 04 setup you will need the 04 shifter cables to keep the interlock function, and of coarse enable the CDL (unless you use a D1 CDL).

If you get a 99/00/01/02 with a nipple and use the 04 setup I highly recommend you disable the interlock on the TC and use the 04 setup (much easier to get to!)
