Transfer case move vs. drop question

Transfer case move vs. drop question
So I have a leak that I am nearly 100% sure is coming from the front input shaft seal pictured below. My question is if the transfer case can be slid back vs dropped to replace this. I have a extra transfer case and know these things are very heavy from moving it around. So can the driveshafts be disconnected and the box unbolted from the transmission, then slid back far enough to swap the seal or does all of the upper connections (sensors/ diff lock / shifter) need to be removed as well?

Both are 04 cases with CDL. Mileage is 179k on the one in the truck although it looks like it has been resealed or redone at some point. The other is about 135k and pretty clean, no leakage etc.

On the subject of transfer case in/out. If one was to recondition a T case what would be considered prudent for redo on a working case?
A. Seals
B. Seals and output bearings
C. Seals and all bearings.
I would love to do C. for the experience but might be more than I can bite off at this time.
