Transfer case and not all wheel drive all the time
Hello
I was under the impression that the Disco II was all wheel drive all the time. On having my breaks replaced it was noticed that only my rear wheels are spinning. When asked to engage the transfer case I was unable to get it to move. The case has been checked out in the past and I was told everything was fine (as usual I brought it in and the guy thought I was crazy cause it went into low right away) Any thoughts? I have the 3 famous lights on right now. might that have anything to do with it?
Thanks
Jaime

Your truck is full time 4 wheel drive, you have the 3 amigos which means your ABS is disabled and therefore your ETC is disabled. Your truck has limited slip differentials so without ETC all power goes to the wheels that slip. The T case shifter shifts from 4WD H to 4WD L.
Stock DII's don't have limited slip diffs.
The front, rear and center diff are all open.
If you're on a hard surface you'll get power and torque at all 4 wheels and your car will move.
If one wheel is on a slippery surface all the power will go to that wheel (because of the open diff) and that wheel will spin and you won't have enough torque applied to the other three to move your car.
If the diff in the axle of the spinning wheel is a locker, or limited slip sometimes, then the car will move if the other wheel has traction.
Or, if your center diff is locked, provided you have CDL (which the 2002 doesn't), and both your front wheels have traction, the car will move.
If your front axle has a locker, then you only need one front to have traction, provided you have your CDL locked.
All the electronic traction aids are there to make up for lack of locking axle and center diffs.
