Awesome info guys... I love that you can get help here and not just get flamed.. much more civil then other forums.. and another question if I may anyone know the weight of the lt230 with the parking break drum on? basically I'm asking if two healthy guys can do a swap with out the use of a jack.

Yeah, you should be able to.
Get some long 10mm x about 180mm bolts and cut the heads off, round the cut ends and fit them to the transmission to use as guide pins. You have to feed the high/low selector rod in to the yoke while fitting the transfer case so you may need 5 hands if you don't use guide pins.

Save yourself a lot of money and consider buying a good 04 t/case and have it installed.

Exactly how is paying someone else to install it going to save him "a lot of money"?

what does the 04 offer.. I was under the belief that 99 thru 01 was a direct replacement.. is the 04 a better choice

Also, don't assume the CDL light switch works. Test it and adjust it before you install the transfer case. Trust me, it's a lot easier out of the vehicle.
