Default transfer case seal leaks stopped!

My 99 Disco I has been suffering from unintended transfer case fluid discharge (seal leaks). Seal redo was qouted at $1200. I checked my local Kragen and found a product White Shepherd from Univeral Products (also makes Blue Devil and Red Angel, see a theme here). Anyway, thought what the heck, paid my $32 and put it in. Long story short, it worked! It took about 3 hours of driving over a couple of days, but the tranfer case is now dry as a bone. Hopefully we won't have any long term problems but so far I couldn't be happier. Now to figure out how to get the gear oil stains off of the driveway. Thanks Phil

If that stuff made your gear oil thick enough not to leak it might not be good for your gears..the gears are engineered for a certain oil viscosity. $5 worth of RTV will fix a TC case leak.

it is actually didn't change the thickness of the gear oil at all. Seems to be just the same. The White Shepherd is about the vescosity of water. I will keep you posted though. Long term will tell. Phil

The best way to remove oil stains is with carb cleaner. Muratic acid works well too.

Be careful with muratic acid, me and a friend acid stained his basement with that stuff and it's fairly toxic. I saw some driveway oil removed on some auto show the other day, it went on wet then absored the oil and dried up...I can not remember the name though.
