Not necessarily true spike.. My disco II has production date of 02/99..

Which makes me curious, were the DI's made through '99 or just at the beginning, and why? Usually when a new model is introduced, the older model production is stopped.. If the DI's were only made in jan. this would make sense, but if not, they were in production at the same time as the DII's. I wonder why they'd do that??

And no, the tranny's won't work.. But I would not hesitate to buy one from a rover recycler.. They're rumored to be extremely tough..

They stopped production of the DI in 1999 and started the production of the DII in 1999, so for all intensive purposes DI's run until 1999.5 and DII's start in 1999.5.
They have to dingush the two somehow.
One would expect all 1999 Discoveries to be the same when in fact there are two very different models in the same year, so they gave the DII a 1999.5 production build date.
Make sense?
No?
Me either.
Why not just start the DII in 2000?

Nothing from a DII will work in a DI and vise versa.
So...you MUST KNOW if the 1999 that you are looking at is a DI or a DII.
If it has a mechanical odometer it is a DI, LCD odometer it is a DII.
not true.. i pull parts off d1's and put on d'2 all the time all the window regulators on my d2 are off a d1.. eletrical componets on the other hand are another story
