Transmission Fault Lights
Just thought I would share an experience with the forum about a transmission fault that occurred yesterday - I am sure that most know of this but it may help some.
I have an 02 Disco 2 with 90k. In a less reputable part of New Orleans I was coming to a light and had the Manual and Sport lights flash and it enters emergency 3rd gear mode. So I pull over and have a look under the hood and noticed that the positive battery terminal is a little loose. A little wrenching, hammering and some vaseline and it is all fixed.
I am assuming from some of Disco Mike's earlier posts that the problem can be caused by a low voltage (not helped in my case by having the AC on as low as possible and fan on Max - I live in New Orleans for the love of God and it is summer!) so in this case not enough power was getting through to run the transmission.
Hope this helps anyone before getting any expensive repairs done at the transmission shop!
