I sure hope the 20w50 ATF is a typo. The D2 trans is electronic and it will delay shifts until it reaches a certain temp. When I had my Hummer H3’s a lot of Canadian/people up north added extra external transmission coolers. Everything was fine until the first winter with the new setup. The H3 wouldn’t allow transmission to shift into OD or unlock the torque converter causing higher RPM’s. It was due to the transmission running cooler & never reaching the optimal temp quick enough. The guys installed all sorts of valves and stuff to try and avoid that situation. I had one installed on my 07 H3 Adventure & it shifted like crap when it was cold. Took 10 miles before it finally warmed up. I switched back to the OEM setup & it was perfectly fine after that. You guys up north might wanna try blocking off some of the transmission cooler to make em warm up quicker, however DO NOT forget about it being there once it warms up outside!

Yeah, I was hoping that was a mistake when I read it...lol. Figured he was just getting engine and trans numbers mixed up.

Most trans fluids are around 10W. If he does have 20W50 in there...that pretty much explains his problems...lol.

Hell no, no typo. Forum has spell check, I know some grammar and usually proofread twice prior to Submitting Now. Worked at a graphic arts studio, newspaper and publisher prior to working on airliners. **** for a good reason.

Do I need to provide the definition of jest?

As I recall, you may have actually lowered yourself and had a poor attempt at showing a sense of humor in a reply once or twice? Please excuse me if wrong or if merely intended to deflect flak.

Some people on LRF need to take a chill pill and come back down to earth... Did I go on & on about the 20w50???? Heck no I went straight to talking about why a D2 would shift funny in cold weather...I haven’t lowered anything, but the content of this forum sure has lowered itself to magical unicorn frozen throttle bodies without a single bit of proof (besides oh “it stuck”), improperly installed transmissions killing engines now, to frozen transmissions on a vehicle that has nearly been around for 20 years & these problems just now magically appeared = sorry going to have to call BS on those subjects.

Neither of your responses were needed to clarify the original question nor my reply to the discussion thread.

As a tech to tech you do supply some good info at times. Other times you sound like a common dime a dozen arrogant mech. If a step above common wrench turner as you you appear to be consider dropping the BS/rhetoric and return to earth yourself.

Missed those in this thread.

Most of can agree the ZF trans is close to bullet proof. Those who have experienced some sluggishness during cold weather are simply relaying their experiences and not suggesting the trans are tango uniform.
