Default Transmission Gear Box Oil problem

I am new here. I need help with my 2000 Discovery ll The temps here have been very high, in the upper 90's. After driving for only a few minutes my transmission gear box oil light comes on. Has anyone else had this problem???

You have a problem other then the outside air temp. How many miles on the truck, how often do you change the tranny fluid?

This is my 2nd. Discovery I never had a problem with the 96 This 2000 has been such trouble. I change my oil every 3000 miles and my services are up to date. I have 65,000 miles on it. The little light in the upper right hand corner comes on after I have been driving for just a few minutes. It only happens when it is really hot outside. I looked it up in my manual and it said the light might come on when driving too fast or in extreme heat. All it said was to stop the engine until the light goes off. My temp guage does not move, it stays normal. My Disc ll is not under warranty and the closest dealer is 100 miles away. I have called them and they are no help!!!!!!!!

Can the transmission oil be changed without taking it to the shop???? My husband wants to know if we can add some sort of coolant?

So how long has it been since the tranny was serviced?
I have run my 99 D2 in 120 plus degree weather and never had mine temp light come on. So I am thinking you have one of a couple things going on, bad temp reading from the tranny, plugged up tranny cooler an internal problem starting to show up or dirty oil.
You should see if you can find a tranny shop near you that can plug in and scan the trannys operation and faults if any, if nothing there change the oil and add a bottle of Lucas tranny additive and see what happens.

Local trans shops can't read codes. Snake oil won't fix hard faults. Won't a flush fix it all?

[/quote]I stand corrected about having the tranny scanned, I was luckey and found one with an AutoLogic system, they were able to read mine and yes most shops probably won't be able to.
As for the snake oil, if you don't believe in snake oil as a possible preventive, why do you put Rovers gas treatment in your customer trucks during a service? Lucas has many products that can do a pretty good job on keeping our trucks running just as Rover and other manufactures products do, just a thought.
Flushes on newer trucks under 60K work pretty well, what worries me about a tranny flush is when a owner of an older, high mileage Rover does a flush trying to correct a problem and looses his tranny.
Take care,
Mike

I would suggest you have someone scan for codes first, then if needed do a flush.
As for where, you will just have to call around and find a shop that has the correct adapter to fit your ZF tranny. If you can find a shop that uses the B&G tranny fluids as part of the flush it would be better cause they make a great product.
