Defender 90 Gear Box Problem

Defender 90 Gear Box Problem
I have a Defender 90 purchased new just over 3 years ago and obviously just out of warranty. About 12 months ago I took it to the LR Dealer with a problem with the Clutch/Gear Box where it was difficult to select a gear or the car got stuck in gear and couldn't be put back in neutral without stalling it or switching the engine off. The Dealer fixed it but would not tell me what the exact problem was. The same problem has now appeared just after the warranty has expired. Does anyone please have any ideas what might be the cause?

Hi, greetings from Hong Kong. I've just joined the forum a couple of mins ago and have a quick question regarding gearbox modification for a Defender 90 2.5 petro that I recently acquired.
I just recently purchased a 1990 defender 90 2.5 petro, and it's currently undergoing some moderate upgrade and restoration, and I really look forward to driving the SUV that I've longed to own.
Back to the main issue. I'm planning to join a road trip arranged by the Hong Kong Land Rover Club in mid Sept that will cover about 4000 miles across China. My worry as well as the comments from varoius seasoned members is that my 90 will not be able to keep up with the pace of the group that are mainly V8 range rover and discovery, and I was told their average highway speed is around 70-80mph.I talked to a rover specialist in Hong Kong, he expressed that the limiting factor for my car's top speed is the gear ratio more so than the lack of engine power, and I wonder whether it is possible to modify the final gear ratio (i.e. 5th gear) to allow a higher top speed and better fuel economy, as constantly flooring the throttle 6-8 hours a day is neither good for the car's engine nor pleasant to the driver.
Any comment and suggestion is welcome.
