Question Transmission Leak

I have this very confusing leak, it all started one day last august when I noticed the smell of hot fluid, once I got home I noticed a line of drips down the road behind me and that there was transmission fluid all over the bottom side of the vehicle, which had gotten all over the exhaust. To my surprise there was a stream of fluid coming from the bell housing of the transmission and at that point I stopped driving it for a few months till I could figure it out.

Over the past few months I dropped the transmission and replaced the seal behind the torque converter which I thought was suspect from researching it online. I looked over the torque converter and it was not cracked either. Upon putting it back in and refilling the transmission, it was still leaking! So I ended up getting a different transmission out of a 2004 that was very good (my other trans had a few other quirks) and ended up putting that in my rover but used my same torque converter. Eventually getting to my question, after all this the transmission is still leaking! Its just dripping now which I can live with but that's not the point! This transmission I bought had no history of leaks and I even drove the other LR while it was in before I bought it. My question is, why is it still leaking? I have searched far and wide and I think I have done a lot to try and figure it out I am just tired of working on it and spending money while the problem is still not getting fixed.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Perhaps the used transmission you purchased had a prior torque converter seal leak, or maybe the seal was nicked during the torque converter install? Is it leaking from the same place?

If you still have your old transmission, you could take it to a transmission shop to have it analyzed. Perhaps they can tell you where it was leaking, and thus where this one is.

Did you put in a new front seal into this before you installed? Also, you're positive it is from the bell housing? Did you inspect the flexplate before installing? Please tell me that you didn't use the same TC...

It's leaking from the same place, just not as much. Yes I did use the same TC unfortunately. Maybe that is the problem? I didn't replace the seal as it never had a problem when it was in the other Rover.
