Default transmission question

At what speed those thetranny shift. mine goes in to 2nd at about 10 then 3rd at about 20-25 and into fourth at 40-45 is that normal?? when I was driving it to work(only 7miles) driving at about 65(speed limi in CA It felt like I was forcing the tranny. It sounded like when your driving a manual tranny car on 4th gear and the car is asking for 5th gear. Is that how it sounds normally. when I let go of the gas pedal at 65 it jerks a little.
thanks

That sounds about normal, the shift points depend on how hard you are pushing the gas pedal. The harder you push the longer it will hold the gears.
I would check your transmission level first. If it hasnt been changed in awhile I would do that.
At 65 mph you should be right around 2500 RPM with standard sized tires.
Also if your tire PSI is really low it will make the truck work harder.
That noise that you hear when you let off the gas is normal.

On your D1, that is about normal. Unlike a D2, which is controlled by it's on ECU, your is shifted by throttle pressure thru a shift cable to the tranny so they have a few more variable that can change when they shift.

Do the D1's have the mode button like the D2's? You can turn on "Sport" mode which changes where the gears shift, but you'll get worse mpg.

Nope. DI's are not that sofisticated.
DII's have a computer that controls the shift pattern, that is why you have trans problems with low alt votlage and shift trouble when the MAF goes south.
The DI uses the same technology that a 1970's truck used.
Cables.
Simple and reliable.
