2 questions actually

1. My transmission shifts hard from 1st to second, but only on the 1st shift never once it is warm just low fluids or a possible other issue.
2. When topping off the transmission you need to go through all the gears, ideally while filling. Can you do that with the transfer case in neutral or does it need a load ?

 

the procedure for filling the transmission is detailed in the rave. you need to fill to overflowing with the engine off, then start it, run through the gears slowly (i don't know why you would put the t-case in neutral for this -- there's no need to do so if you keep the brake on). return the transmission to park, keep the engine idling, and fill the transmission to overflowing. replace the plug and then shut off the engine.
