Default transmission quit

Hey Guys
I was driving around today went probably 50 miles. Came home . Went to leave and no forward or reverse. Had to be towed home. No dash lights or anything. Engine and transmission only have 30,000 miles on them. I checked fluid level. Added a 1.5 qts. Then got on here and realized that I was checking and filling the transmission wrong. I put it on a lift with the car not running and filled it. I will redo it tomorrow. Any thoughts on what else I need to check. Thanks for any help.

You should check and make sure you have the proper amount of oil and that your cooling system is properly bled you may have been lucky on this one but maybe not being low on any fluid can cause failure so check everything to be sure.

Also check to make sure your drive shaft has been rebuilt or replaced with a serviceable front drive shaft or you could really have your "transmission quit".

CDL in neutral position (if so equipped) or models with "spud" manually shifted some how? Blown differential (power goes to the side with least resistance)?

I would drain your transmission completely and do a re-fill. Changing the filter would be helpful or at the least dropping the pan to see if the filter is blocked. check the fluid for color and a burnt smell. you have not checked or filled the correct way. see if this helps. If not, then we can begin to answer or help to figure out the net steps. but until you get an accurate fil and check.... it could be as simple as old fluid not filled enough. this is the easiest simplest first check.

Before you go draining the tranny, start the engine, put the tranny in drive and have someone look at both drive shafts to see if one is spinning while the truck is not moving. If that is the case you will have a broken diff or CV joint.
Let us know what you find.

I put a code scanner on and scanned it. I got a P0722 output shaft speed sensor no signal. I am in the process of checking the fluid and possible changing the fluid and filter. Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this sensor or where it is located?

Also I checked the drive shafts. In good shape. I have a rebuilt one that is serviceable in the front. Someone asked for that info.

722 can be the problem, I would do that before worrying about your fluid.

I checked the fluid level the proper way put 2.5 qts in. Have full power in reverse. No forward. I put it up on my lift. when I put it in drive the will turn. The P0722 code went away. Could this be cause by a clogged fluid filter? This transmission and motor was in a low speed roll over. Set covered up inside for 5 years before I got it last week from the donor vehicle. blew couple rods in the motor. Donor motor runs great.
