Default Transmission stuck in Park

I jumped in my '01 Disco and could not get it to shift out of park. Could it just be low transmission fluid? If so, how is the fluid the level checked (couldn't find explanation in user manual). Any info would be greatly appreciated, I don't feel like getting it towed to the dealer and raped again.

Start you engine and see if you have any brake lights when pressing the brake pedal, if you don't, you have a bad brake switch located on the brake pedal arm that needs to be replaced.
It is not fluid related and if you wanted to check your fluid you have to crawl under the truck with the correct size wrench and loosen the tranny fill plug. If fluid comes out it is full, if not you have to add fluid.

Brake lights do come on and it has been temperamental-the shifting that is. I haven't driven it in a week and last night I got in to see if I could move it and it shifted out of park. Then, when I shifted it back into park it was stuck again. Triple AAA will soon be on the way if I can't figure out what's wrong. Thanks for the response by the way.

Then if the brake lights are working, the solenoid that allows the tranny to shift is failing.
