This would be a 3 or 4 hour job to fix simply by removing the rear 3rd member and dropping a new one in out of a junk yard truck.
It'd be great if I wasn't 1,000 miles away from both home and tools. Right now the truck is parked in a residential area near downtown Houston.

As I have no other transportation (and I do not know a soul in the area), I'm kinda screwed.

Also, the banging and clanging noise under the shifter kinda makes me think the rear end is OK. But in all honesty I know jack squat about this
