Did you drive a few 100 meters, sometimes the light takes a minute to turn off

There isn't a light for 4Hi/N/4Lo position, however their are two related to the 4wd system. One indicates the gearbox is in N (orange with a gear image) while the other for CDL 94-99 D1 and 04 D2 (from the factory) will have an orange/red light for the CDL being enabled/disabled.

switch might need adjusting or connector cleaning. Probably has not been put into Hi/Low position change in years.....or it's not fully engaged..
Post a pic of light...

If the light is flashing and there's a chime sounding, under normal circumstances this would mean your transfer case is in neutral. If you have forward drive in Hi or Low then obviously this is not the case and your neutral switch is most likely stuck. Here's a link to a post showing the switch locations and functions. Since it is a normally open switch that passes ground when closed you should be able to unplug it and solve the immediate problem. Switch #1 is the one in question and its located on the top of the TC. The connectors are a bit of a bitch to get to.
