Default troubleshooting driveline

the short of it= snapped a rear axle, began my limp home in front wheel drive, driveline vibration began......trailered the last leg. started tearing it down. found rear axle snap...great, no biggie. problem is the front...

it was roll snapping, as in missing teeth/faulty cv. smooth then clank/click....over and over, like teeth.
ripped the front apart to find no visible evidence....yikes. I was sure it was in the diff. or an axle. now I have the diff. on a $.50 bs set up and spinning the shafts.......nothing.
I have basic knowledge of my fitted trutrac. I know how it works/ the lay out of it, but not a lot else. as in how to check it out and verify that all is good. I am assuming that if the issue is not there, it must be a tcase issue. no fun chunks came out with the drain.

any advice on testing? I would like to know, for sure, that I am putting a perfectly functioning unit back in. that way it is ruled out and I am not chasing my tail, doing a tcase swap...

open up the TT unit and check it out if you havent done so. Was the tcase full when you drained it?

I would pull part and inspect both the T-Case and Diff. I'd hate to see you go through ll that trouble ans install a faulty unit. Have fun.

Firstly drop off the tcase cover, think it's eight small bolts/screws. Check the shafts and bearings for lateral movement/wear. It may be worth dropping the tcase and checking out the 1x input seal and 2x output seals and replacing. Also the 1x autobox output seal. (Don't get ya digits trapped between the Tcase and floor ............. painful. it's circa 55kgs)

Check out the truetrac for gear damage or broken pins.

Checkout the crownwheel and pinion bearings for damage and wash down and blue off the teeth on the crownwheel and operate the pinion to see whther the mesh is correct.

All ya need to know about diff builds except the trustrac. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co...ype-diffs.html shows how to blue off and mesh contact patterns. Jump to it Dusty, ................... simples

Tranny in n, t case locked. I'm spinning gears and all is smooth and looks good.
This is pointing back to the 3rd.
I think I should pull gaiter off the cv before I pull tt apart....thoughts?

You would think you would feel a CV that was that bad, and not have to hunt for it.
