Troubleshooting my 2001 D2 for possible coolant issues and P1884 fault.
My 01 D2 114k is running hot.. i have no means of temp reading but I can tell you this.. the passenger side of the radiator is not getting hot to where the drivers side is blazing along with hoses on that side?? the mechanic that i had it at a few weeks ago said the car was showing signs of over heating but for some reason the temp gauge inside wasnt going passed the half way mark.. he found it very odd and advised me to address it asap.. any suggestions?? T stat? radiator clog? water pump? where should i start?

wow.. Savan. thanks so much.. I will start a thread and cut and paste my original post.. i do have a scanner.. the only codes im getting is p0102 (MAF) P0327 (Knock sensor) which the mechanic replaced on the wrong side.. and the illusive p1884.. this is where maybe I believe the ECT fault lies? or T Stat?? the bottom line is the truck runs fine when cold.. but soon as it warms up its starts "lurching" on heavy gas demand..if i let up on the gas some it will clear up.. it intermittingly stalls when I slow down to what seems under 10mph.. and will also just die when stopped at a light or parked etc..

The MAF code indicates either a restricted (dirty) air filter, MAF sensor needs cleaning (clean with CRC cleaner made for the purpose, when truck has sat over night, cold, don't crank engine first), or replacing. Since it tells the ECU how much air is coming in to mix with fuel, driving issues could result. You want to clean it when cold because the sensor heats part of it up to over 400 degrees F inside, and the shock of cold cleaner can be too much stress.
The 1884 code means the transmission ECU is not happy about something, but with just a generic scanner you won't know what. It does monitor temps, so it may be unhappy about that.
Does your scanner read live data, if so what is the coolant temp it reads?

It does not read live data as far as I know.. its a 50buck Equus 3030 Innova.. I cleaned the MAF with the CRC on friday when my friend was working on the truck.. I havent driven it yet beacuse he was weary about coolant issue.. you mentioned that "electric fan" kicken on.. he did say at one point he felt it came on to qucikly..(4-6 minutes after start, sitting idle, 50 degrees outside temp.

That would seem to be quick to me, engine should need a while and a load to get up to 212 F. The $70 Ultra Gauge is code reader/ scanner/ display/ alarm....
Seems like thermostat would be one pace to check. It can be removed, inspected for trash in the small metering holes in the top, and tested with hot water from a teapot. If replacing go with oem from dealer if possible.

Hey Savannah.. my neighbor ((mechanic) took the T Stat out and he was familiar with your "tea pot" test.. we submerged it in hot tap water and then as it began to boil it remained closed for about another minute+.. while it did eventually pop open after boiling for a bit my neighbor felt it took too long and was sticking or faulty.. new t stat ont the way from BA 22 bucks and a ECT 25 bucks for good luck.. I will keep you posted.. and thanks again so much for your thurough and quick responses..

For now though the over heat is a major player that needs to be delt with first.
What is you step by step game plan to track down and fix the over heat issue?

The truck actually never overheated.. a mechanic I had it with (who didnt seem to familiar with LRs) said while he was workin on it and bleeding the steering, the truck was running really hot "and theres something wrong with your temp gauge because its only registering up to 9oclock".. I didnt put to much stock in what he said.. we had words.. then my neighbor was checking it out and he said he felt "the electric fan was kicking on to early" (running idle for 5-10min 50 degrees out) he felt the lines and said they were too hot to where the one near the TStat was not.. i informed him that I read that "these trucks run a little hotter and the lines would be too hot to touch after a bit".. he then pointed out to me that only one side of the radiator was hot.. he took the TStat out, and we tested in in some boiling water.. it popped open but he felt it was faulty and took to long.. I ordered a new one from AB along with an engine coolant sensor.. I also got a BOSCH MAF for the P0102 code.. Now this always happens to me after the fact.. I had already ordered the MAF and then stumbled upon one of your posts that said.. "the generic bosch wont work correctly neither" followed by a serial number?? I couldnt find your post for the life of me.. with my luck I got the generic.. its a bosch w0133-1603746.. I could send back if its wrong.. its still in the box.. So as of friday we are doing a -Coolant flush (distilled water), TStat replace, Engine Temp Sensor replace, and MAF replace.. hopefully this will remedy the P0102, and the P1884.. oh heads up.. I dont have a temp gauge to give readings.. PS please dont yell at me for throwing parts at it LOL
