Default type of gas you all are using on your disco?

i am sure everyone here has an input. well here in nj as probably all around the country the prices of gas is going up once again. i have been putting super (93 octane) in my 00 disco II. i just want to see if anyone else in here switched to the mid grade (89 octane) and have any results to share. i guess my real question is will the 89 octane gas mess anything up? get back at me folks. any info would be much appreciated. thanks.

You can do a search on this one, it is a hotly
debated topic.

I was reading the LR manual, I noticed it said that you should use a premium gas. But, that world wide 87 octane and above is considered premium?(Did I misunderstand?) I try to do the 93, but I have been using 89 lately. I cant tell a difference...

I struggled with this at first too and came to the conclusion that it's mainly a psychological issue. The difference in price between mid grade and premium is only a few cents. Even between regular and premium is maybe twenty cents? That would equate to about $100 additional cost for each 10,000 miles or so.

It's not gonna break the bank

ya really, it's like a 4 dollar difference to fill up with premium. . . . i just go for the premium.

running low octane on a high compression engine is NOT good for it! you may not tell much of a difference, but the computer may be retarding the timing to save you from getting pinging.

i have a 96 disco 4.0. tried the 89 oct. for about 2 tanks. it was not the same, as far a power, and the the ever popular ping was present. I went back to 91plus. ping gone power back. The price difference was not worth it to me. in WV the price is 3.00 plus. one thing to consider is to make sure you are using your choice of injector cleaner. You get better milage. hope it helps, gotta love a rover. duboff
