u-joint replacement/D2

RE: u-joint replacement/D2
Would this be covered under a land rover extended warranty if the u joints failed?
Would the warranty cover replacing them as a precaution?
Has anyone with little mechanical experience ever done this job themself?
I'm looking at buying a 2001 disco SD and am trying to figure out exactly how I should proceed after purchase.

Just had mine done yesterday with spicer u-joints which are apparently the best and most recommended onesaccording tothe driveline experts I went to. He said that neapco are absolute crap ( which confirmedwhy they are known ascheapco on most forums) whichI could have had installedfor almost half the price. Then you have precision which are half way between the 2.

They are called cheapco by people who don't know what they are talking about, or people who like making rhymes. If you buy the Neapco boxed u-joints they are within one or two dollars of Spicer, unless your shop grossly over-charges. Both sell for $30-$35.)
Of course, you can also get PDQ10005 u-joints for about $13, which are about 1/2 price the cost of "Spicer" 5-4x and are in fact actually Neapco 1-0005.
So exactly how good is this shop, I'm curious about the below two answers.
How often did they tell you to lube your propshaft?
What are the directions they gave you for how to lube it?

Rumor has it they quit making it, and I can't find them for purchase online anywhere..... Spicer 5-4X, right?

If you have 5-4x with zerk fittings on the end cap, they are actually made by Neapco. If in the valley of the cross, then Precision, GMB (talk about crap!) or some other company.

Front U-Joint Failure While Under Warranty
Hi -- new to the forum and want to add to this thread: the front U-joint on my 2001 Discovery II failed with ~40,000 miles, while the vehicle was still under warranty, and having had all recommended Land Rover services. Fortunately the failure occurred while I was backing out of my driveway, others may not be so fortunate.
There was nothing happening that gave any indication it was going to fail. It was very fast -- I was backing at normal speed, in an instant the vehicle hesitated and I instinctively gave it a little extra gas, and then heard a god-awful noise. That was it -- the front of the drive shaft was on the concrete. I have a 2004 now and could not change this fast enough -- it felt like a ticking bomb!
