Default An update about my 01 Disco

After I got home from work today I set out to replace the stock wires with the magnecor wires I just bought. The sparks plugs I changed about a month ago to Bosch +4s. It really wasn't that bad. It took me about two hours and although my chest is sore from laying on the engine, the car started up fine and ran very well. The light never came on and there was absolutely no hesitation.

I was also experiencing vibration at high speed. Well, I may be crazy but it was much better. It was still there but way less vibration was detected, I am gonna have my wife drive it tomorrow with me to verify.

Any hoo, as per the advice from many on the forum, I plan to also change my u-joints. I got under the vehicle and looked at all the suspension and driveshafts/u-joints to see what I could see. Well, I noticed that the rear drive shaft had a grease zirk as did the two u-joints on the rear shaft. The front u-joint of the front shaft also had a zirk. However, the two u-joints at the rear of the shaft didn't have zirks. Is this how they came from the factory? Disco mike said to replace them if they didn't have zirks and I thought that was referring to all u-joints. I'm wondering if someone hasn't already worked underneath.

Any comments?

Yes, you are correct, those two without zerks are the culprit.

Okay, I knew they were, but the I am still curious if the other u-joints came with zerks from the factory.

Oh, my bad . All of the u-joints with the exception of the two in the double-knuckle (also called double-cardon, also called a Hooke's Joint by land rover) come with zerks from the factory. When I replaced the u-joints in the hooke's joint on the front shaft I also changed out the one that came with zerks for good measure. It is recommended to go ahead and have it done. As for the rear shaft, just inspect that one u-joint and your flex disc when you change your oil, and keep it greased once a year or 12,000 miles.

When done, then put grease zerks in the slip shaft potion of each shaft, give then alot of grease and then replace the plug. Alway grease all u-joints about every 12,000 miles.
