Default UPDATE ON FLASHING "M+S"

After installing a new battery and still getting the same issue I took my Disco to my "indi" Rover mechanic his code reader said #14XYZ switch. He said $240 for the part tax included labor is $55. What are the chances the connection is just gunked up versus the switch being bad? Is it accesible enough for me to try cleaning it up first?

I had the same problem on mine. You can buy the XYZ (switch gear position switch) on AB for $199.00. I also found a couple of used ones for $50-75, but decided against used ones. It sits right on the side of the transmission, is easily accessibile and quite simply to replace. If you shift your car into gear slowly and let it move into gear, you should not have any problems, until you get it fixed. From what I have read the switch does get wet and can cause intermittent problems. The quote you got is about right, the dealer wanted $279.00 for the part
