Upper Intake Removal Nightmare!
Started last Saturday trying to change the #8 wire without removing intake as it was misfiring constantly. Got everything out of the way and pulled the boot off of the coil. Unfortunately, the connector end broke of in the coil. Now the intake has to come off. Removed everything showing in the Rave manual and worked for about 5 hours to get intake off. Would not budge. Ordered new wires and coils on Monday. Waited until today to try again and realized that there are 2 lower coil bracket screws that I had missed. Removed the bolts and tried again. It is all loose - pulled and tugged and wiggled and won't come out. grabbed the breather hose going from the top of the plenum down to the oil separator connection on the passenger side valve cover gasket. PLASTIC SNAPPED OFF IN MY HAND AT THE INTAKE. Still cant get the intake off. Can the piece that connects this hose to the intake be replaced and if so, does anyone have a part number?? My parts will be here tomorrow UPS but now I am screwed.

Thanks Caymandrew! that was a perfect lead to my part . That one is for up to '02 . mine it is actually an '03 I found it at Atlantic British part number LKL 000080. I just didn't know how to search for it with the correct wording and your link gave me the wording thanks again!!
intake has 6 bolts.
4 in the middle.
One under the alternator
one in the rear.
You also need to get the wishbone air pipe off of the intake.
Plus the valves on either side for the air injection.
Even then it will hang up on all the wiring and pipes on each side of it.
This was not easy for me.

jfall he's got it under control. For anyone else that comes along later and finds this thread while google searching upper intake removal... Follow these well documented instructions, I did and found the upper intake removal to be a breeze:

A couple of points for those who will come after us.
First, the coil packs can be removed and refit without removing the upper intake manifold. I did so 3½ years ago on my non-SAI '99 DII. It’s probably not possible on an SAI truck. I takes a lot of patience and the correct tools (socket extensions and a u-joint), plus a telescoping magnet tool for the lower mounting bolts especially.
Second, the broken adapter can be replaced for less money with a brass equivalent from your local Lowe’s, Home Depot, ACE or mom and pop hardware store. I used Teflon tape before screwing the replacement into the intake when I replaced mine after breaking the original.
It’s a good idea to remove this adapter and the brake servo vacuum pipe next to it before placing yourself atop the engine face-down. I learned this the hard way. To remove the vac pipe push the red collar IN while pulling the pipe OUT.

SAI sucks! My coils are held in by the bottom 2 bolts only. Removed the bracket on top that connects to the SAI pipe. This makes removal much easier and both coils and SAI pipe are still solid. Still can't take out the coils without removing everything else though.
I broke off the hard plastic coolant line from the TB to Coolant Reservoir doing this job yesterday. Replaced the whole thing (2 rubber chunks and the hard plastic line) with a 3.5' chunk of generic heater hose for $2.50. MUCH cleaner now and went from 4 hose clamps to 2.
