URGENT Please Read
My key got stuck in the ignition and wouldnt come out. This happens every once in a while, i just run through the gears park to park to reset the system. This time it didnt work. My shifter got stuck in 2nd - wouldnt come out. Then I got it to move up to nuetral, but this time the plastic thumb **** came out of the shifter and wont go back in. So now i have a rover sitting on the street with a key in it, in neutral, without the ability to shift. Help? Tips? Please! Thanks
Pop the center cap off the top of the shifter. Inside, you'll see a nut (probably just sitting there after having unseated itself). Fish out the nut & spring. Since the button has fully dislodged, you'll have to take it all apart and reassemble. It's not difficult. It'll all only fit back together one way. The shifter can't disengage and move since the button is no longer operational. Can't get the key out with the truck in gear (As you've found out).

That nut holds and adjusts your shift cable. It connects directly to the transmission.
You could not get the key our before because that nut was loose and you were not all the way in park even though you thought you were.
This is very common on DI's, it is just all part of the aging process.

Yes thanks all, after you told me to pop off the top, it was easy, i was trying from the side :/ Anyway the key came right out after it was shifted correctly into park. Thanks all.
