Verdict on anti-freeze?
Just googled it, peak global lifetime, that everyone recommends, is oat, just like dex.
Running dexcool, regular thermostat. Have ultra gauge and normally run about 185, all year, in boston. Broke 200 once this summer for less than a minute.
Have asked at 2 Indy shops in our area (overlander & cityside) and both looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned swapping out dexcool.
Maybe they just want my business
For now I'm leaving it as it is working great, but lots of people here with experience hate it so I suppose time will tell.

I recently did the switch from dex to peak...I actually noticed a ~2 deg increase in normal temps (yes it was flushed very thoroughly with distilled water first) but it is still in OK range given it is the standard temp stat. I run 197-200 on the highway in the summer, goes to 206 at idle. Previously I would run closer to 195 on the highway and 204 max at idle. Water wetter didn't lower it but I don't think it will really since the stat is what keeps it at temp. Just makes it more efficient at cooling I guess.
Mine had been moved to green before I bought it, but I am thinking that the new hybrid OAT may the the answer to get the OAT properties desired to limit the aluminum corrosion problem that OAT handles, as I understand it, and not have the issues that Dexcool had. Anybody running Hybrid OAT, like Xerex G-5?
From my understanding dexcool cools a little better but in a truck like the DII that tends to leak it becomes exposed to air. The self sealing property of dexcool ends up crystallizing/clogging up parts of the cooling system.
Damn I didn't know that was coming up. What's the date? I may just finally head up there.
I use the Peak Long Life, PEAK | LONG LIFE | Antifreeze / Coolants | Auto Products
Right now Advance Auto has it for $9.99 a gallon for full strength. Add $1 for a gallon of distilled water and you have 2 gallons of 50/50 for $5/gal.
You should be using a 180 thermostat, a 190 doesn't open soon enough.
