so you are saying that instead of fighting with the nuts holding the flange to the park brake drum you took the u joint apart while still on the truck? I will have to keep this in mind, still seems like a lot of work for a problem that I am unable to pinpoint, but then again maybe I need to go ahead and just do this to isolate where the problem is. it is very tough to do any jobs that take more than a few hours because I have a family of 4 in an apartment and this is our only vehicle.

It worked preaty well for me. Spray some kind of parts loosening fluid (wd-40 or something better) on the u-joint a few days ahead of the job. Soak it well and soak the caps well. It will really help the caps come out. I hope i don't lead you astray but I was the guinea pig for this. Just hope it works as well for you as it did for me.
