Anyone installed a jack nut before? Bought voyager racks' ladder (and roof rack) and the ladder came with no instructions or even indication of what these nuts were... took me a lot of research just to figure out they were jack nuts. Supposed to drill into my vehicle without any instructions... really disappointing. Short of buying a specialized tool to install these, which seems ridiculous, I'm not sure how to install them.
For what it's worth, here's my review of the voyager racks equipment. The ladder is absolutely phenomenal, thicker and sturdier metal than any ladder I've seen before, and the roof rack is phenomenally built as well, with cnc cut metal mesh welded to the top for a flat, sturdy floor (an option we added). I'm looking forward to using it for hauling 4x8 plywood, lumber, furniture, whatever—we have a similar design on our African Disco but that rack is a piece of junk compared to this. Unfortunately customer service has been severely disappointing with no response to requests for help with this jack nut installation, no response or updates on the order for several weeks after I placed the order and handed over somewhere around $2,500, and when I finally did receive the roof rack, it wasn't what the picture showed on their website, a basket rack — it didn't have a basket! So we got exactly what we didn't want — a basketless roof rack. And no options offered for returns without us paying exorbitant shipping. The owner of the company gave no explanation for why their website shows a basket rack on the order page for this rack, when it's not a basket rack that they send... so all around, incredibly built materials, love the galvanized steel, the powder coating, but the customer service really has made this a frustrating experience. Hope this helps anyone in the future looking at voyager racks. If you can wade through the mire of a misleading website and poor or no instructions, this is top notch equipment.
I had a custom rack made from Voyager but was in contact before I paid anything as I wanted to make sure we got what we wanted. The rack we had done wasn't like anything offered on their site so there was quite a bit of back and forth before payment was involved, which went pretty smoothly. That said I've heard of some customer service issues that had me concerned but fortunately we had a good experience, sorry to hear yours wasn't as great
Took a while to get some people over to help me mount the roof rack, but we finally got it up. Putting on the hardware now and realized the three lines of instructions are backwards. They say to put the roof rack up, then install the hardware based on the photos (that's about the totality of instructions given), but once the roof rack is up you can't actually fit the bolts onto the roof rack because the space is too tight between the metal supports and the vehicle's upper panel. So disregard the instructions or you'll have to undo all your work of lifting it into place. Instead preinstall the bolts before putting the roof rack in place... feels great wasting my time and other people's time like this. This level of customer service and bad instructions (or lack thereof) makes me feel like I bought a 2-star product from China on Amazon.
Funny story, Voyager Racks sent me an automated review request, so I gave them a 3-star review, just saying what I've already said here, great product, poor customer service. Naturally the review was deleted within hours, and then the company's president Andrew Nix suddenly took an interest in customer service by writing a response to me, saying their installation instructions for all products are on their website (the ladder instructions are not—it takes two seconds to see that), and by making a snarky comment about my ability to install products on old cars... yeah. Great doing business with these guys.
I've also run into 24 bolts of the same size being sent when the instructions for my version of the rack clearly state there should be 16 of one size and 8 of another. But I'm done communicating with these guys. Good luck to anyone in the future dealing with Voyager Racks, but the hard product quality has not been worth the terrible service. All I wanted was a basket rack, and after all this headache and money, I still don't have a basket rack...
The product I paid for, as shown on their website (still—they haven't bothered to change it).
The roof rack I actually got... no basket. Only this tiny little side-basket in the front.
That’s all really too bad. I wouldn’t have given them 3 stars, 1 1/2 or 2 at the very most.
haha I was trying to be fair, but after being personally insulted by the owner and continuing to find problems like a missing support bracket and the wrong size bolts, I’d definitely drop it to a 2-star review.
Considering you didn't even get the right product, I'd probably cut my losses and do a chargeback on them. If nothing else, I'll steer far clear of these clowns since it seems they can't conduct business at all.
