Default Warranty Coverage for 2002 Discovery II

I found a 2002 Discovery II SE that I want to buy. 91,000 miles. I only want to buy if it has a warranty. Here is the warranty coverage. I would really appreciate any opinions as to if this coverage is adequate for a 2002 Disco with 91,000 miles:

Engine All internally lubricated parts including: pistons, piston rings and pins, crankshaft and main bearings, connecting rods and rod bearings, camshaft and bearings, oil pump, timing chain and/or gears, rocker arms, valves, valve springs, seats and guides, valve pushrods and lifters. The engine block, cylinder head, and rotary housing are covered only if damaged by an internally lubricated part. Seals and gaskets are covered when replaced in conjunction with covered repairs.

Transmission/Transaxle All internally lubricated parts in the transmission case and torque converer. The transmission case is covered only when damaged by an interally lubricated part. Constant velocity joints are also covered.

Four Wheel Drive All internal lubricated parts of transfer case and differential (front and rear), axle shafts, wheel bearnings and constant velocity joints. The differential housing is covered only if damaged by an internally lubricated part.

Steering
All internal lubricated parts of manual and power steering gear housing and power steering pump.

Seals & Gaskets Cylinder head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets. All other seals and gaskets are covered only in conjunction with a covered repair.

Fuel System Fuel injection nozzles, fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. (Does not include fuel injection pump).

Cooling System
Water pump, thermostat, electrical radiator fan motor and fan clutch.

Air Conditioner Compressor, compressor clutch, clutch bearing (does not include air conditioning evaucation or recharge).

Electrical
Alternator, starter meter and voltage regulator.

Roadside Assistance Tow, jumpstart, flat tire, fuel and lockout assistance.
The Premium Plan is for vehicles with 100,000 miles or less.

I'm not clear. Does it have a warranty included with the price or are you looking to buy one?

If the later, who backs the warranty?

I can't help beyond my own experience.

I, too, was looking at a warranty when I bought my '03 Disco several years ago.

The cost approached $5,000.

For that, I can probably replace the engine and tranny.

If cost wasn't enough of an issue, then there's uncertainty of whether the company would try to weasal out of paying for a claim which seems to happen a lot...assuming that they would be in business long enough to be there when I needed them.

Land Rovers tend to be expensive beasts to repair when the dealer's involved. It's actually in the warranty providers best interest to avoid paying at every opportunity. If they don't outright avoid it, they'll make it difficult to get your claim approved.

So, I took a pass on it.

If you buy a extended warranty I will come to your house in the middle of the night and beat you with the threaded end of a 3' lead pipe.
Here are the common problems with Disco's.
https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=21328
Notice that the common problems are NOT covered under this warranty.

They will NOT cover coolant leaks, they will NOT cover the ABS or air ride suspension.
The driveline on a LR is pretty much bullet proof, change the fluids and filters once and awhile and it will last you this side of forever.
They will NOT cover the power windows or power door locks.
They will NOT cover your front driveshaft when it fails and takes out your transmission.
When it does they will NOT cover the transmission because it was not a internal trans part that failed.

DO NOT BUY A EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
THEY ARE A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For $1300 you can repair 90% of the common problems yourself.

Who is the coverage thru and at what cost?
Will your local Rover except their policy so you don't pay first?

3 years, 36,000 miles for $1285

I understand that I can fix 90% of the minor problems for less than $1285, but I am more concerned about the major things. One blown engine and I am screwed.

I have an extended warranty on my Jaguar and it has been great.

But why would the engine blow up?
As long as you take care of it these engines are bullet proof.
These trucks and engines are sold in every country on earth and some of them never see pavement ever in their lives and last 30 years on the same engine, even the gas engine.
They will only cover lubricated parts, NOTHING else.
What lubricated part is likely to fail? Non.
Take that $1300 and stick it into a Money Market Account, throw $20 per week at it, before you know it you will have enough to buy a brand new engine if needed.
Cover the small stuff yourself, but something big happens you have your own warranty.
Remember, that unless you pay for that warranty out right you will be financing it and it will up your payment.
Not to mention that a higher purchase price will up the total paid for the truck.
You will be making payments on something that has no cash value, cant be sold or transferred.
So that $8400 truck is now $9685.
So why not skip the warranty and buy a '04 for $10,000?
Newer truck with less miles.
$8400 at 10% for 4 years is $213 per month.
$9685 at 10% for 4 years is $245 per month.
$10,000 at 10% for 4 years is $253 per month.
For a extra $8 per month get the '04 with no warranty.
