Exclamation Water pump gasket

Does anyone know of any tricks to help remove the water pump gasket? I have tried AutoZone's gasket removal foam but it hasn't touched it. As far as I know its the original gasket. Any help is appreciated...

You can try using a putty knife or a box cutter.

Thanks for the reply. That is probably my last resort. I was just curious to find out if any one actually had any luck following the rave "plastic scraper" instructions. I have been through three plastic scrapers and I have 3/4 of the gasket left...

Plastic scrapers are junk. If you apply to much pressure they either bend or snap in half. The blades are not sharp enough and become even duller after light use. Use a metal one with care and you will be alright.

you will never get it off with a plastic scraper. Use a razor blade with care as it is easy to shave off the aluminum.

You can also use a emery cloth.

Just did that job. Took me 90 min of patience. I used a combination of metal scraper and glass scraper.

Thanks for the help. I just picked up some emery cloth and razor blades. Its a rainy day here in Alabama, perfect for taking my time to work on removing the gasket in the garage!

Use a new square razor blade and take your time.
