Smile Water pump replacement

Hello all. My water pump just went out. I found a good video on you tube that shows the process, and it looks like something i can do on my own and save some money. If anyone is interested her e is the link

The guy in the video has a fan removal tool that is only 17 bucks. Problem is i need to fix this tomorrow, and i am guessing it is a part that local auto parts stores wont have.

Has any one made one of these, or have a way to remove the fan? I was thinking if i had the centers of the bolts centers i could make the hold back piece, then but the 36 mm wrench at store.

But then i realized the hold back piece would have to be notched like a socket head to grab the bolt heads? This wouldn't be possible with the fab tools i have around the house.

I was also wondering what local stores can get a decent replacement. I have an Auto Zone, Car Quest, O'reileys, and Napa near my house.

Thanks Aaron

You can rent a 36mm fan clutch wrench, or use a crescent style adjustable wrench. Once on the fan to water pump nut, strike wrench firm and sharply with hammer, toward you left. May pull up on tensioner bolt to increase rather than decrease tension on belt.

Sweet, good idea. Thanks Savannah

Should i use an RTV sealant, or buy the Right stuff sealant to place on the gasket?

Use this Permatex stuff. I applied it while replacing my water pump & timing cover gasket. Its like a purple playable rubber cement. It allows you to position the water pump gasket then holds it in place while you position the bolts.

For a replacement stay away from the parts stores and order a AirTex water pump from either British Parts of Utah or Atlantic British. This is a far better, German made pump that will last longer, has a 2 year warranty and costs around $140.

Yes I would like to get a good quality pump, but i have to fix it today, so have to shop local.

Auto Zone has a new Duralast pump for $160 with a lifetime warranty.

I am going to see if they carry Permatex High tac you suggested. If they do not carry it, what is the next best thing local shops carry?

Wish me luck,

Savanna, the High Tack Permatex stuff you recommended is awesome. Gives you plenty of time to play around.

Does that stuff work good on valve covers as well, or is the right stuff better in that application?

And i forgot to ask, any recommendations on tightening up the fan nut? I couldn't get enough hold back with the belt to get any good torque to tighten it up.

I put it on the way i took it off, i quickly popped it tight a few times. It is on there ok, just not sure if it requires a hold back?
