I was looking at a snorkel on AtlanticBritish.com today and noticed that the site mentioned this would NOT allow US Discoverys to drive in water above hub-level due to the electronics.

What must be done to the Discovery I in order to make it more ready for fording water? And once prepared, how deep can one drive?

 

That's interesting. I haven't tried wading yet, but my '03's owner's manual says you can wade deeper than that. The only thing it mentions about electronics is to remove the under-seat CD changer before you go into deeper water.

 

Yes the CD Changer. But I also think the abs system cant handle being underwater for extending periods of time. There was a thread a couple weeks back abotu a guy who waded and his dash freaked out on him - let me find it...

 

Sorry can't find it. Anyway I think he had problems with the abs system after wading. Can't really remember though - sorry.

 

One of the most important things to water proof in a D1 is the ECU whish is mounted on the passenger side of the firewall. Then you should water proof all your electrical connections, extend all breather hoses for the tranny, t/case, both diffs, check and repair all door seals and firewall plugs.
Just remember Rovers aren't totally water proof and some damage can be done.
Under the most extreme water crossing, watch the direction of the water flow, maintain a constanat speed and make sure there is someone with you incase you need a pull.
