Weird brake issue
I have a 2003 discovery with the brake light illuminated on the dash, with the p1590 rough road abs fault. I’ll be tracking down what is throwing the amigos, but the mystery is that the hill descent light isn’t stuck on, and the traction control light doesn’t come on at all - even at start up. Any ideas what could cause this?
Have you checked your brake fluid? It's odd that the TC symbol doesn't illuminate when you turn key to second position, maybe some tampering has been done with that. Surprised you're not getting any ABS codes.
I used to get P1590 on my first truck without any of the amigos -- only the CEL. Replacing a wheel hub took care of the trouble, but I had to use a code reader to work out which one was the problem.
I pulled the dash apart last night and found black tape over the CEL… nefarious. The only codes I’m getting are the rough road ABS code and O2 sensors, but the big thing is that the TC light hasn’t been taped over. I expect I’m in for a long troubleshoot..
does anyone know if the brake warning light can cause there TC not to engage?

You don't say what code reader you are using, but if you are seeing the 1590 only your device is not able to read ABS codes. You need to be using something that will read ABS codes, not just engine management codes. I've never seen a good explanation of why, but ABS codes always trigger the 1590 in the engine management system regime.
I haven’t been able to run the code with an ABS reader, however I did find a wheel position sensor today that the former owner had not noticed was disconnected or intentionally disconnected. Once I cleaned the dirt out and connected it, p1590 disappeared but the brake light is still on.
I’m currently tracking down intentionally covered up issues - like the SES light being taped over. Fortunately, none of the codes are significant (O2 sensors) but there are definitely issues that he lied about. They had replaced the front driveshaft and I asked if it failed while driving and smacked the tranny, to which he said no and I didn’t initially see anything wrong. However today I found a 3 inch long weld on the side of the transmission where it was repaired after the driveshaft obviously hit it…
Still runs good, stays at a good temp, and I have faith I can chase down these small issues but I’ve learned a lesson about deceitful sellers.
