Default Weird D1 'missing' Issue

Hey guys,

The local shop that I've been "training" to be Rover mechanics (lol) has attracted another customer. The guy has seen my Rovers there on his way through from Grand Rapids, and he thought he would give them a crack at his D1. (I don't know the year, but I think 97).

The garage is at a loss. He says you'll get it up to highway speed, level the throttle out, and it'll feel like it's cutting half the cylinders. A second later, it picks them back up, and so on, constantly.

I told them I would jump on here and see if you guys had any ideas. It sounded like an electrical failure of some kind, and it may be, but he said that they couldn't pick it up.

What do you all think?

Thanks!

Pat

shooting from the hip I would say that if the vehicle is in a relativly good state of tune...they may want to check / replace the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor)....it doesnt thorw any codes as such, but will make the truck buck and so on.

Make sure it's a '97. If it is, x3 on the VSS. If it turns out to be a '95, then check the vacuum advance.

Keep me posted on what they find out. My vehicle is acting similarly. It happens at 50 mph and again at 70...if I try to maintain those speeds it just runs terrible. But if I let off the throttle then resume, it will accelerate through the rough spot.

NOTE - mine's throwing some codes that I posted on a different thread. It's showing misfire in a few cylinders and it is also throwing a code for a coolant sensor. I'm waiting on some suggestions from some really brilliant minds that may have an idea what I should try first.

Nothing, friend. The owner didn't want Keusch's just trying stuff, so they came and got it and left.
