Weird Interior Light Problem
After re-covering my headliner a while back, my front and 3rd row dome lights started a weird problem. Switch them to "off" they go off....middle position to turn on with opening doors works fine. lights right up. Turn the switches to the "on" position and they turn right off with the doors opened or closed....so I just got around to ordering new ones thinking I somehow broke BOTH of them....problem is unchanged. Any thoughts? haha oh and by the way the back seat light seems to work fine.
Am I correct in assuming that to view those connectors I'll have to remove the 3rd row rear trim panel, right hand side. that surrounds the windows to get access to these connectors? just making sure before I take that whole thing off haha. Running out of daylight and just put all the tools away from an oil change. Think this will be added to tomorrow's list. thanks for the quick answer Savannah.
Agreed haha. thank you. I just have no idea how this could happen. Its only a 2 wire plug going to the light switch.....and it only goes in one way. How did I screw this up? I hate electrical bugs.....must have knocked something loose either pulling the headliner out or putting it back in.
Did you forget to reconnect the ground wire at the front dome lamp?
It's the 'lil black wire (easy to miss when reasembling) and connects to the metal ground plate that is attached to the front map tray/dome lamp. remove the 10 map
tray scews, drop the tray down and take a look...

.......you know I do remember a small black wire actually with a tiny plug? don't recall much about it but I know where it was. Will take a look after the surprise snow storm here.....
I had the exact same problem. Figured i forgot the ground too, and I did. But not completely...
I plugged the little black guy into the ground mount on the sunroof motor instead of the light. So, I unplugged it from the sunroof motor and plugged it into the light and everything works like it should!
Almost...
I know I put that same mount on the rear sunroof motor but now there is not one for the front one. The result is that the rear motor has more power and seems to work better than the front. Were these cars not designed to have a ground for the front motor or is that since both go into the the control block and then to the ECU that there is only a need for one ground? Did i loose this ground into the abyss after re-installing the head liner/ can i just set a ground into some metal if i want?
Please help as I do not want to have to buy another new motor or anything like that.
Thanks!
