Weird noise and cool way to test the MAF
Hey everyone. I have a question for you. I hear this whirring sound when the engine is running. It's a 2004 D2. It's my second D2 and I never heard this sound with my other beast. Anyone know what it is? Video attached, excuse the background wind.
Also, someone advised me as to a trick to check the MAF. Start the engine, unplug the sensor. If the car dies, the MAF is good. If the car keeps running the sensor is toast. Looks like I need a new sensor. Anyone tried this before and can vouch for its accuracy?
Thanks. I am head for some dirt....
Pete

Sounds to me like one of your two idler pulleys or a belt driven accessory.
I literally just replaced the smaller (70mm?) idler pulley on the pass side of one of my D2's yesterday... mine sounded kind of similar.
Best way to test... remove the belt. Spin everything by hand. In my case, the one idler pulley made a whirr noise when I spun it by hand, replaced it, and now silence.
