Default Well, this was fun...

Look what happened! Totally sucked-- at least it was two miles from home

The output flange has some play, too. Looks like I will be replacing the output shaft bearing and a front drive shaft, too. I may as well do the rear bearing and rotoflex while I'm at it. I still have an oil leak that I can't quite pinpoint yet. It's driving me crazy!

Totally fried front drive shaft

Yikes! That doesn't look like a stock driveshaft, either. Lucky that it stayed in one piece.

Go buy a Powerball. Your stars are clearly aligned.

It's definitely not. It looked darn near new when I purchased it. It also has a "2013" stamped on it. I wonder if the play in the output side of the transfer case caused it to prematurely go belly up?

I've never seen one that didn't have some play in the output of the transfer case.

That's what I've heard, too. It's not an amazing amount, but it is annoying. One can wiggle it a little in different directions. I'd expect some rotational play due to gears instead of chains on the inside, but I'd not think you should be able to wiggle it. I would think that would cause vibration and maybe cause a shaft to die prematurely. Maybe I'm wrong?

@deodra I think the biggest issue on these is the centering ball, if that binds you would get a failure in that double joint. And it is not something easy to grease

Very good point! From all accounts, I've come to realize that if I start to feel a vibration, time to replace. LOL! I don't feel up to replacing a tranny.
