Default Well I got in to my truck. Now what geniuses?

Here is where I started, oringinal post:

"2000 Discovery bought used with no remote. Was using the key to unlock the door until one day the lock stopped functioning ( key will not turn left or right, key slot ramains at 12 o'clock).

Used keyless entry with fob from the dealer with no problems for a number of years.

I left town for three weeks and the truck sat in the driveway. Got back and the fob would not unlock the truck, light on fob lighting up normally. Alarm light on dash blinking normally ( every three seconds or so). Changed the battery in the fob, no dice.

Called pop a lock and while we were trying to get in ( almost impossible) I pressed the buttons on the fob out of desperation, don't remember what sequence, and the truck unlocked. Got in and the truck started with ZERO hesitation, no car battery issue.

Drove the truck for a couple of days and everything functioned normally. Truck sat for two weeks and when I went to unlock the yesterday it would not work. Dash light blinking normally, fob light illuminating normally. Changed the battery in the fob and still not functioning.

So..... anybody have some experience with this? "

So i got it open with an air wedge and hit the unlock button, opened the door and the alarm started going of. Hit the key fob and got nothing, turned the key in the ignition and alarm still sounding and truck will not start.

I am willing to give installing a new receiver a try but I don't know if any receiver for a 2000 Land Rover Discovery will work.

Need some advise on how to source the proper receiver.

Thanks in advance for real answers.

Mine did the same thing after sitting for a while. I had to break in with the air wedge and unhook the battery to stop the alarm. Then one day messing around with it I hooked the battery back up and pressed the unlock button and it shut the alarm off and started up fine. To answer your question, I never figured out what caused it.

jlodge- I had to do the exact same thing. I had 4 locksmiths come out and none of them could get in. I finally ordered my own air wedge and went to Home Dept and got a 6 ft. long metal rod. I bent the rod and pumped the wedge and hit the unlock button on the dash. No lie, it took me 10 seconds.

Of course the alram went off and I had to unhook the battery. Its been sitting for 36 hours now. I ordered a second hand receiver after I uninstalled the old unit. I will put it all back together and post my results.

Keep me updated. I am interested to see if that is the problem and might look into going that route if it works for you.

Weird, I don't have this issue with my LR, but my Porsche does this every time it sits more than a week. The key fob won't unlock the car. But if I insert the key and unlock it manually, the fob starts working normally again. It's almost like it loses it's memory after a long sit, and unlocking manually re-sets it or something.

That is probably like mine except my manual door lock in the driver's door doesn't work.

I think I would go the dealer and get a new key fob and it set to the truck first. Could be an intermittant problem with the fob it's self. Only draw back is based on what they charge for a new fob and programming it, I'm pretty sure there's gold inside those fobs. lol

Probably can get a new one a little cheaper online and just have them program it to save a little cash.

As for the lock not turning left or right... Is the key warped any at all? My key is warped just ever so slightly and theres a catch in the turning of my door lock and a SERIOUS trick to cranking my truck with it! LOL. I could leave my keys in the ignition and nobody could steal my truck but me! Evereytime someone has to crank my truck other than me(valets or mechanics) I get a frustrated phone call soon after. If it's not warped at all I have no idea on that one. Maybe some Lube in the lock?

The key is fine. Lock gave signs of not wanting to turn before I got the fob. And yes, tow to dealer+ new key fob + $150 to program = UR EFFED. The air wedge was $27 bucks, metal rod was $5 and the new ( to me) receiver was $33 with shipping.

Going to install the new unit tonight. I will post my results.

GOT IT DONE.

Took the door handle off. Removed the c-ring and the retainer ring from the lock barrel and knocked out the broken parts of the lock, about the last 1/3 of the waffers. Reassembled the barrel and turned the key and BAM! Works!!! Reassembled door and turned the key to disengage the alarm and that hunk of garbage fired right up.

Key fob still doesn't work and I don't know how long my lock will last but I have the air wedge. Ordered a used handle assembly, should have it in soon.
